Participants meet at our beautiful hub space Mondays through Thursdays and build community as they explore modern-day Peru alongside ancient Inca traditions and culture. Experiential learning takes place at the hub, with activities facilitated by visiting teachers and our staff, and out in the community. Participants come to understand how Inca influence persists as they learn about Inca cosmology at the planetarium, make their own purple corn drink in one of many culinary workshops, hear about the cultural significance of alpaca and llama, and so much more.

Deliberate Detour participants experience all the gifts Antigua has to offer: its Mayan history, natural and agricultural treasures, artistic traditions, and more. On any given day, they may make chocolate from cacao seeds native to Guatemala, try their hand at Mayan weaving, or taste fruits like mamey and passion fruit… and so much more. On optional Friday Field Trips, they travel farther afield, perhaps visiting a macadamia nut farm or roasting marshmallows near Pacaya Volcano’s lava vents.

We combine immersive outings with quieter days at the hub space where participants play teambuilding games, relax in the reading nook, engage in a history talk with a local expert, and circle up to reflect on the day’s activities.
